We had a great turn out for the last leg of the Marathon Inshore Bridge Tarpon Tournament Series. A big congrats. goes out to Capt. Butch Hewlett and his anglers. One of his anglers, his wife Barbara took top female angler for the second time. Not to mention that Capt. Butch swept the tournament series and took home an extra $1000 gift certificate from Big Time Bait and Tackle. So you need to come down to Boatman’s Sombrero Resort and fish and stay in the oil free Florida Keys.

Flat Calm Seas for Memorial Holiday
We started on the reef and caught our limit of yellowtail and mangrove snappers. The cero mackerel were thick as it could get. We filled the fish box and headed out to the wrecks. The permit fishing was great. We hooked 11 fish and released 4 from 20 to 31 pounds. Jig and crabs did the trick. The seas have been flat calm and the fishing has been great. Big Dolphin
The seas were big and so were the fish. We headed out to the Marathon Humps and we ran into some big dolphin just inside the humps. The fish were on working birds. Rigged ballyhoo with a blue and white JCamm lure in front of it did the trick. The blackfin tuna were hitting the long Shimano butterfly jigs. It was a little rainy out there but the fish are already wet. Thanks for checking out the Two Conchs fishing report with Capt. Jack Carlson. www.twoconchs.com
Dolphin fishing red hot
We headed offshore today and the weedlines were thick 9 miles South of Marathon. That is where we found our first slammer dolphin. The we found some working birds and once again we put out the J Camm lures with a ballyhoo and that kept off the small dolphin and the other two slammers could not stay off the lures!! With 3 slammer dolphin in the box and a bunch of other schoolie dolphin, we were in by 2pm. We had a great day dolphin fishing and those lures are a must have on every boat! Cobia!!!!
We hit the Gulf today, even though it was blowing 35mph. We had wind against tide most of the day. We caught mangrove snapper during that time. The tide change was at 1:30pm and that is when the cobias turned on. We caught 2 off the kite on live blue runners. We caught 2 more on live pinfish on the bottom. The sharks were biting good and so were the Goliath grouper over 60-70 pounds. We also hooked into a 100 plus pound tarpon for a bit. Thanks for checking out the Two Conchs fishing report with Capt. Jack Carlson. www.twoconchs.com
Hump Trip
The seas were flat calm offshore and the tuna were biting. We also caught a couple amberjack and our largest was 51 pounds. All the fish were at the Marathon Humps and we were using the Shimano Butterfly jigs. There was a great weed line 12 off Marathon and it had schoolie dolphin on it. Work the Color Change
The tuna bite was on at the Marathon Humps. The Shimano Butterfly Jigs did the trick again. We caught 15 blackfin tuna up to 25 pounds and a 35 pound amberjack. We headed back in towards shore and came across a great color change in 650 feet of water. We trolled the edge of it and was steadly catching schoolie dolphin on it. Once we came across some powder blue water, I saw 2 tailing sailfish. We pitched live pilchards at them and they just kept on swimming by them. We set up and drifted the live bait for a few minutes. A marlin jumped 4 times infront of the boat so we headed there and threw a live pilchard infront of him and once again no takers. So we set back up and drifted the live pilchards again and the dolphin came in on those and they were eating those up. Thanks for checking out the Two Conchs fishing report with Capt. Jack Carlson. www.twoconchs.com
SE at 15
We are fishing Dan and Claudia Hegwald from Kansas. We started on the wrecks this morning. The mutton snapper and amberjacks were biting well. We caught some live pilchards and that is what the fish were feeding on. Long leaders with a 4/0 live bait hook is doing the trick. We came into the patch reefs for some yellowtail snappers and they are biting on every drift back. Live shrimp on a Calcutta Ultra jig is doing the trick. Seas are 2-3 foot rollers and the wind is out of the SE at 15kts. We have been flying the kite all day with a live blue runner hanging from it but not takers yet!
